Matt Molloy the renowned fife player was born and bred in Ballaghaderreen, Michael Flately of River dance fame has also strong connections with the local area. There are regular gigs in the local pubs,  Watch out for the Secret Village Festival, this concept is unique, in that its setting is located in old plots of land dating back 100years it is a celebration of culture and attracts large crowds in a controlled environment.

Each year the Town hosts the Lake &Legends Festival in July. The Town also showcases all the finest art  In an exhibition with contributions from locals both young and old..
There are wonderful walk ways and cycling routes in the rolling countryside and historical  Crannogs on Lough Gara some 8lkm from Town . Moygara Castle is also only 8lkm in a southern direction with a lot of relevant history.
